Filing in context
The Other (frame/body) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 42 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 41 Mitsubishi notifications from 2024 in this archive. For scale, 4,748 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 months.
Defect
On large tractors, the coupler lock guard — the component designed to prevent false coupling — has an incorrect shape. When a coupling operation is performed with the tractor and trailer at mismatched heights, the lock guard fails to function correctly. Despite the false-coupled condition, the multi-display monitor may show the coupler lock indicator in green, indicating a normal coupling state. As a result, the trailer may separate from the tractor while driving.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the lock guard with the corrected part and adjust the lock guard position. Until the replacement is completed, notify operators to match the tractor and trailer heights before coupling and to visually confirm the coupling state after the operation.
