Defect
The electric drive control computer uses improper activation conditions for its failsafe function. When a cooling abnormality occurs in the plug-in hybrid inverter, restricting motor operation may still allow the inverter to overheat. If the vehicle continues to be used in this state, the engine warning light and hybrid system warning light illuminate. When the failsafe activates and shuts down motor operation, engine operation is simultaneously stopped, and the vehicle may become inoperable.
Corrective action
(3) On all vehicles, reprogram the electric drive control computer with the corrected/updated software. Additionally, update the engine control computer software to a version compatible with the corrected electric drive control computer software.
