Filing in context

The Computer (engine) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 16 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 22 Mazda notifications from 2023 in this archive. Defect

The engine control computer uses improper startup conditions for the hybrid system. If the push-button start is switched off and then switched back on approximately 8 seconds later, the relay circuit for the mild hybrid battery may fail to connect. When this occurs, a "Hybrid System Malfunction" message is displayed on the meter, the engine warning light illuminates, the transmission is locked in the N range, and the vehicle may become inoperable. Additionally, the engine cannot be restarted within approximately 90 seconds of switching the push-button start off.

Corrective action

(1) On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control computer with the corrected/updated software.
