Defect
The current rectification module within the DC-DC converter has an improper internal component design. Due to manufacturing variation, the module may fail in service and form a short circuit. This causes a warning light to illuminate while current continues to flow from the auxiliary battery, generating heat. In the worst case, this may result in a vehicle fire.
Corrective action
Replace the DC-DC converter on all vehicles with a corrected part.
