Defect
On heavy-duty trucks equipped with the 6R20-type engine, the engine harness was improperly assembled, placing it in strong contact with its retaining bracket. Engine vibration causes the contact point on the harness to wear through and sustain damage, resulting in a sudden engine stall or an inability to restart the engine. In the worst case, an electrical arc from a short circuit at the damaged area causes a vehicle fire.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the branch section of the engine harness. If no damage is found, insert a rubber interference-prevention pad between the harness and the retaining bracket. If damage is found, replace the harness with a corrected part.

状況
6R20型エンジンを搭載した大型トラックにおいて、エンジンハーネスの組付けが不適切なため、当該ハーネスとハーネス固定用のブラケットが強く接触した状態のものがある。そのため、エンジン振動によって当該ハーネスのブラケット接触部が摩耗して損傷すると、突然のエンジン停止やエンジン再始動不能に至り、最悪の場合、当該部がショートした際のアークによって火災に至るおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、エンジンハーネスの分岐部を点検し、損傷が認められない場合は当該ハーネスとハーネス固定用ブラケットの間に干渉防止用のゴム板を追加し、損傷が認められた場合は当該ハーネスを対策品に交換する。
