Filing in context
The Wheel is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 24 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 46 Toyota notifications from 2023 in this archive. For scale, 2,462 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 9 months.
Defect
Inadequate management of press equipment during manufacturing caused some steel disc wheels to be formed with an incorrect disc shape, resulting in insufficient weld strength between the disc and rim. This allows cracks to develop at the weld. In the worst case, the disc wheel may fracture.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the disc wheel manufacturing number and, where applicable, replace with a conforming unit.
