Defect
Replacement engine repair parts for the VR38-type engine were machined with an incorrectly configured measurement instrument during the crankshaft bore manufacturing process, resulting in crankshaft bore diameters smaller than specification. In extremely low-temperature conditions, the insufficient clearance between the crankshaft bore and the crankshaft main bearings causes bearing seizure and abnormal noise. Continued operation allows the seizure to progress and, in the worst case, may result in engine damage.
Corrective action
Replace the affected engine assembly or cylinder block with a conforming unit.

状況
ＶＲ３８型エンジンの交換修理用部品において、クランク穴加工の設備計測機の設定が不適切であっため、クランク穴径が規格より小さく加工されたものがある。そのため、極低温環境下ではクランク穴とクランクシャフトのメインベアリングとのクリアランスが確保できずメインベアリングが焼き付くことで異音が発生する。そのままの状態で使用を継続すると、メインベアリングの焼き付きが進行し、最悪の場合、エンジンが破損するおそれがある。
改善措置
当該エンジン本体またはシリンダーブロックを正規品と交換する。
