Filing in context
This is the only filing in the archive that cites the Engine Control Unit / Exhaust Emissions Control System (Computer) as the affected component. This filing is one of 28 Hino notifications from 2022 in this archive. For scale, 1,208 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 9 months.
Defect
On vehicles equipped with the E13C engine, the DPR regeneration control program is improperly calibrated. During DPR regeneration under high-speed, high-load conditions, the urea SCR catalyst temperature rises higher than intended, accelerating catalyst degradation. If the vehicle continues to be operated in this condition, nitrogen oxide emissions in the exhaust may exceed regulatory limits.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, as an interim measure, the SCR catalyst purification rate is inspected; catalysts exceeding the threshold are replaced. An SCR catalyst purification rate inspection item is also added to the maintenance log service schedule. A permanent corrective measure will be implemented once finalized.
Affected models & chassis ranges
This filing lists 25 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
