Defect
In the engines of these large trucks, microscopic voids may be present at the maximum stress point of the turbocharger turbine impeller during secondary resonance. These voids act as fatigue crack initiation sites, causing the turbine impeller to fracture and producing abnormal noise, white smoke, power loss, and engine warning light illumination. Continued operation causes abnormal vibration in the turbocharger, which fatigues and cracks the turbocharger oil supply pipe. Oil leaking from the cracked pipe contacts high-temperature surfaces and may result in a vehicle fire.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the oil supply pipe, coolant supply pipe, and pipe mounting bracket with corrected parts. If the turbine impeller has already fractured due to this cause, the turbocharger will be replaced at no charge.

状況
大型トラック用エンジンにおいて、ターボチャージャのタービンインペラの二次共振時の最大応力部に微小空孔が存在した場合に、微小空孔を起点とした疲労破壊によりタービンインペラが破損して異音、白煙排出、出力不足等が発生し、エンジン警告灯が点灯することがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、ターボチャージャに異常振動が発生し、ターボチャージャ給油パイプが疲労により亀裂してオイルが漏れ、高温部に付着して火災に至るおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、給油パイプ、給水パイプおよびパイプ固定用ブラケットを対策品に交換する。なお、上記原因によりタービンインペラが破損した場合には、ターボチャージャを無償で交換する。
