Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Isuzu & Nissan.
The Turbocharger is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 30 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 24 Isuzu notifications from 2016 in this archive. For scale, 1,024 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 9 months.
Defect
On vehicles equipped with a diesel turbo engine, the vacuum hose for the turbocharger has insufficient durability against engine heat, and may develop a crack. Additionally, the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) particulate matter (PM) removal control program is improperly designed, and DPF regeneration may be triggered even when excessive PM has accumulated. Continued use may allow abnormal combustion—caused by reduced vacuum pressure from the cracked hose—to further accumulate PM. When the DPF then attempts regeneration, the filter may overheat and sustain damage. In the worst case, the undercover may catch fire.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the vacuum hose is replaced with a corrected part and the engine control computer is updated to a corrected program. The DPF PM accumulation level is also inspected, and if accumulation is excessive, a forced regeneration is performed.
