Defect
The engine control unit on trucks and buses contains a defective control program for the data storage memory. As a result, some data required for vehicle operation may be lost. This causes the engine warning light to illuminate and, in the worst case, may prevent the engine from starting.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control unit with the corrected/updated software, or replace the engine control unit with a corrected/revised part.
