Defect
On light trucks and buses, the engine oil change interval was incorrectly specified. Operating beyond the true required interval results in insufficient engine oil level. Combined with failure to monitor engine oil during routine inspections, timing chain deflection increases, causing abnormal noise and reduced power output. In the worst case, the timing chain may fracture, leaving the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the timing chain system and replace any components determined to require replacement with new parts. Distribute supplementary owner's manual and maintenance log editions reflecting the revised engine oil change interval.

状況
②小型トラック・バスにおいて、エンジンオイル交換時期を誤って設定したため、本来の交換時期を超えて使用を続けるとエンジンオイル量が不足した状態となり、また、日常点検によるエンジンオイル管理の未実施等によって、タイミングチェーンの振れが大きくなり異音や出力不足等が生じ、最悪の場合、タイミングチェーンが切損して走行不能に至るおそれがある。
改善措置
②全車両、タイミングチェーンシステムを点検し、交換が必要と判断された部品は新品に交換する。また、エンジンオイル交換時期を変更した取扱説明書とメンテナンスノートの追補版を配布する。
