Defect
(1) On the rear brake calipers, the boot sealing the parking brake actuator shaft has insufficient sealing performance, allowing water to enter around the shaft and cause rust to develop on the shaft. Continued use allows the rust to progress into the interior of the caliper, obstructing shaft rotation and reducing parking brake clamping force. In the worst case, a parked vehicle may roll away. (2) On the rear brake calipers, parts that failed to meet inspection standards escaped detection due to inadequate quality inspection during the manufacturing process. This may cause the automatic gap-adjustment mechanism between the brake pad and brake disc to stop functioning. Even as the brake pad wears, the pad-to-disc clearance will not be automatically adjusted, reducing parking brake clamping force. In the worst case, a parked vehicle may roll away.
Corrective action
(1) On all vehicles, inspect the rear brake calipers and, if a pre-corrected caliper is found, inspect the shaft. If the shaft is seized or rust has progressed into the interior of the caliper, replace the brake caliper with a corrected/revised part. If rust has not reached the caliper interior, remove the rust and replace the boot with a corrected/revised boot kit. (2) On all vehicles, inspect the rear brake calipers and, if a pre-corrected caliper is found, replace the piston inside the brake caliper with a conforming replacement part. Where the brake caliper itself is replaced under measure (1), the piston is replaced simultaneously. Note: Because preparation of replacement parts requires time, owners will be notified of the defect and advised to exercise caution. Replacements will be performed in order of vehicle age, beginning with the oldest, as parts become available.

状況
(1)後輪のブレーキキャリパーにおいて、駐車ブレーキ駆動用シャフトのブーツのシール性能が不足しているため、シャフト部に水が浸入し、シャフトに錆が発生することがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、シャフトの錆がキャリパー内部まで進行しシャフトの回転が阻害され、駐車ブレーキの制動力が低下し、最悪の場合、駐車中の車両が動き出すおそれがある。 (2)後輪のブレーキキャリパーにおいて、製造工程での検査不良により検査規格を外れる部品が流出したため、ブレーキパッドとブレーキディスクとの隙間を自動調整する機構が作動しなくなるものがある。そのため、ブレーキパッドの摩耗が進行しても、ブレーキパッドとブレーキディスクの隙間が自動調整されず、駐車ブレーキの制動力が低下し、最悪の場合、駐車中の車両が動き出すおそれがある。
改善措置
(1)全車両、確認のうえ、後輪のブレーキキャリパーが対策前品の場合は、シャフトを点検し、シャフトが固着またはキャリパー内部までシャフトの錆が進行している場合はブレーキキャリパーを対策品と交換し、キャリパー内部まで錆が進行していない場合は錆を除去し、対策品ブーツキットと交換する。 (2)全車両、確認のうえ、後輪のブレーキキャリパーが対策前品の場合は、ブレーキキャリパー内部のピストンを良品に交換する。(1)の改善措置においてブレーキキャリパーを対策品に交換した場合、ピストンも同時に良品に交換される。 なお、交換用部品の準備に時間を要するため、使用者に不具合内容を通知し注意喚起のうえ、部品準備が整い次第、年式の古い車両から順次交換する。
