Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mazda & Suzuki.
The Computer is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 42 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 27 Mazda notifications from 2017 in this archive. For scale, 1,491 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 months.
Defect
The auxiliary power module control software is incorrect. During the transition from deceleration idling stop back to acceleration, the software incorrectly identifies the large current flowing through the motor-generator as excessive and activates a protection mode that cuts off charging to the lead-acid battery. This causes a warning lamp to flash. Continued operation in this condition discharges the lead-acid battery and, in the worst case, may cause engine stall or prevent the engine from starting.
Corrective action
Reprogram the auxiliary power module control software, or replace the auxiliary power module with a corrected part.
