Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mazda & Suzuki.
The Seat belt is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 26 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 21 Mazda notifications from 2021 in this archive. For scale, 621 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 8 months.
Defect
Due to inadequate assembly instructions, some front seat belts were assembled with slack after becoming nipped between the center pillar trim interior panel. In a collision, the slack is taken up before the belt engages, delaying occupant restraint and increasing the risk of injury.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the front seat belts. Correct any belt assembled with slack to the proper position.
