Defect
In the engine starting system (starter), an incorrect engine control program allows a shift operation performed immediately after engine cranking begins to force the starter motor pinion gear into hard engagement with the engine ring gear. The resulting impact may damage the gears. This causes abnormal noise during engine starting and, in the worst case, may prevent the engine from starting.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control program to the corrected specification.

状況
(1)エンジンの始動装置(スターター)において、エンジン制御プログラムが不適切なため、エンジンクランキング開始直後のシフト操作により、スターターモーターピニオンギヤがエンジンのリングギヤに強嵌合し、その衝撃でギヤが破損することがある。そのため、エンジン始動時に異音が発生し、最悪の場合、エンジンが始動できなくなるおそれがある。
改善措置
(1)全車両、エンジン制御プログラムを対策仕様に書き替える。
