Defect

On large route buses, the rubber components used in the starter are made of an unsuitable material, and the flywheel ring gear has insufficient wear margin. Frequent engine starts by the idling stop-and-start system cause accelerated early wear of the ring gear. Continued operation in this condition causes the starter to spin without engaging, and in the worst case, the engine may become unable to start.

Corrective action

1. On all vehicles, replace the starter with the corrected part and inspect the flywheel ring gear for wear. If wear exceeds the service limit, replace the ring gear with a new unit. 2. Reprogram the idling stop-and-start system control software to the corrected specification for the wear-resistant ring gear.

状況

大型路線バスにおいて、スタータに使用されているゴム部品の材質が不適切であること および フライホイールリングギヤの摩耗に対する余裕が不足しているため、アイドリング・ストップ&スタート・システムによるエンジンの始動を頻繁に行うと、当該リングギヤが早期に摩耗するものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、スタータの空転が発生し、最悪の場合、エンジンが始動不能となるおそれがある。

改善措置

① 全車両、スタータを対策品に交換すると共にフライホイールリングギヤの摩耗状況を点検し、使用限度を超えていた場合は新品のフライホイールリングギヤに交換する。 ② アイドリング・ストップ&スタート・システムの制御プログラムを、フライホイールリングギヤの摩耗対策品に書き換える。
