Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mitsubishi & Suzuki.
The Air Bag is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 2 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 47 Mitsubishi notifications from 2016 in this archive. For scale, 753 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 9 months.
Defect
The airbag controller contains an improperly designed control program. If the ignition switch is turned off and then turned back on again at a specific timing, the control program may be erased. This causes the airbag warning light to illuminate, and the airbag may not deploy in a collision.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the airbag controller with the corrected/updated software, or replace the airbag controller with a corrected part.
