Defect
On large-capacity transit buses equipped with an automatic transmission, the torque converter backing plate attachment bolts and the thread machining on the torque converter cover are improper, resulting in insufficient clamping force on the bolts. Continued use may cause the bolts to fracture. A fractured bolt can become trapped between the torque converter cover and the turbine and, in the worst case, lock up the torque converter, causing an engine stall and rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
Replace the backing plate attachment bolts with new ones on all vehicles and retighten them to the specified torque.

状況
自動変速機を搭載した大型路線バスにおいて、トルクコンバータ部バッキングプレートのトルクコンバータカバーへの取付けボルト締付け方法およびトルクコンバータカバーのねじ部加工が不適切なため、当該ボルトの軸力が不足しているものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けるとボルトが折損し、折損したボルトがトルクコンバータカバーとタービンとの間に挟まり、最悪の場合、トルクコンバータがロックアップした状態となり、エンストして走行できなくなるおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、バッキングプレート取付ボルトを新品に交換し、規定トルクで締め直す。
