Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mitsubishi & Suzuki.
The Steering wheel is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 4 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 27 Mitsubishi notifications from 2025 in this archive. For scale, 811 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 7 months.
Defect
The drawing specifications for the joint between the steering wheel and the steering column are insufficient, resulting in inadequate clamping force at that connection. Under steering inputs during driving, the mounting nut loosens, causing abnormal noise and play at the mating surfaces. Continued use may cause the mating surfaces to separate entirely, resulting in loss of steering control.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect and clean the steering wheel mounting, reinstall the steering wheel correctly, and torque the nut to the specified value.
