Filing in context
The Other (Electrical Equipment) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 46 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 56 Mitsubishi notifications from 2015 in this archive. For scale, 619 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 10 months.
Defect
Improper manufacturing of the blower motor results in the motor shaft and bearing being assembled with their centers misaligned, causing abnormal wear between the shaft and bearing. Continued use in this condition leads to seizure of the shaft and bearing. In the worst case, the blower motor stops operating, the defroster becomes inoperative, and the driver's field of vision cannot be safely maintained.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the blower motor and, on affected units, replace the blower motor with a corrected part. If the power transistor fuse has also blown, replace the power transistor at the same time.
