Defect
On large trucks and buses, zinc that leaches from the fuel hose reacts with compounds in the diesel fuel, generating deposits that can cause the internal valves of the fuel injection system to seize. As a result, abnormal engine noise, white smoke, and illumination of the engine control system warning lamp may occur, and fuel that accumulates in the muffler may ignite. In the worst case, hard starting and engine over-revving may develop.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inject a cleaning agent into the fuel tank to remove deposits adhering to or remaining in the fuel line, and reprogram the engine ECU with updated software that adds a function to suppress internal valve seizure in the fuel injection system.

状況
大型トラック・バスにおいて、燃料ホースから溶け出した亜鉛が軽油中の成分と反応して生成された化合物によって燃料噴射装置の内部バルブが固着する場合がある。そのため、エンジンの異音、白煙の発生、エンジン制御システム異常の警告灯点灯、マフラー内に溜まった燃料の発火などが生じ、最悪の場合、エンジンの始動不良や吹け上がり等に至るおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、燃料タンクに洗浄剤を注入し、燃料ラインに付着・残存している化合物を除去するとともに、燃料噴射装置の内部バルブ固着を抑制する機能を追加したエンジンＥＣＵのプログラムに書き換える。
