Filing in context
The Fuel Injection System is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 23 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 36 Mitsubishi notifications from 2003 in this archive. For scale, 3,007 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 8 months.
Defect
In the engine fuel injection system, the bracket securing the accelerator lever return spring has insufficient strength. Repeated extended operation at high engine speeds may, in the worst case, cause the bracket to fracture. If this occurs, the accelerator lever may not return to the idle position, causing engine speed to rise uncontrolled.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected bracket with a corrected part.
