Defect
On the propeller shaft of heavy-duty trucks, the spline shaft is undersized, creating excessive play between the spline shaft and the mating flange. This imposes excessive load on the bolts securing the flange to the spline shaft. Continued use may cause these bolts to fracture. In the worst case, the propeller shaft can separate from the vehicle, rendering it inoperable.
Corrective action
Replace the propeller shaft on all vehicles with a non-defective unit.
