Defect
On light trucks bodied as vans or refrigerated vehicles, the bellows pipe of the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler has insufficient strength. Thermal expansion and contraction from exhaust gas heat causes cracks to develop in the bellows pipe. Continued use allows the cracks to propagate, resulting in an exhaust gas leak.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, verify the body configuration. On affected vehicles, replace the EGR cooler with the corrected part.
