Defect

In the fuel tank, the weld between the tank body and the fuel baffle plate has insufficient durability. Repeated fuel sloshing during driving causes cracks to develop at the weld. Continued use allows the crack to propagate until the baffle plate fractures, generating abnormal noise from fuel movement during acceleration or deceleration. In the worst case: (1) On front-wheel-drive vehicles, the detached baffle plate may contact the fuel pump power terminal, blowing the fuse and stopping the fuel pump, causing the engine to stall while driving with no possibility of restart. (2) On all-wheel-drive vehicles, the detached baffle plate may interfere with the fuel level sender inside the tank, causing the fuel gauge to malfunction. The driver may not notice the fuel has been exhausted, causing the engine to stall while driving with no possibility of restart.

Corrective action

On all front-wheel-drive vehicles, add a cover to the fuel pump. On all all-wheel-drive vehicles, add a reinforcement plate to the baffle plate.

状況

燃料タンクにおいて、燃料タンクと燃料揺動抑止板(バッフルプレート)の溶接部の耐久性が不足しているため、燃料揺動の繰返しにより亀裂が発生するものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、亀裂が進行して折損し、発進時または停止時等の燃料の揺動により異音が発生するおそれがあり、最悪の場合、(1)前輪駆動車において、バッフルプレートが燃料ポンプの電源端子に接触してヒューズが切れ、燃料ポンプが停止し、走行中にエンストし再始動できなくなるおそれがある。(2)全輪駆動車において、バッフルプレートが脱落して燃料タンク内部の燃料残量測定器に干渉し、燃料計が正しく作動せず、燃料が無くなったことに気付かず、走行中にエンストし再始動できなくなるおそれがある。

改善措置

前輪駆動車は、全車両、当該燃料ポンプにカバーを追加する。 全輪駆動車は、全車両、当該バッフルプレート補強板を追加する。
