Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Isuzu & Nissan.
The Engine control computer is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 9 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 46 Isuzu notifications from 2010 in this archive. For scale, 2,843 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 10 years and 9 months.
Defect
On vehicles equipped with a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter), the engine control computer uses an incorrect fuel injection quantity setting during automatic regeneration (combustion removal of collected particulate matter) at low engine loads, allowing excess fuel to mix into the engine oil. If the vehicle continues to be operated with engine oil quantity above the specified level, engine oil enters the intake path, generating white smoke and causing engine speed to rise. In the worst case, the engine may stall and fail to restart.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control computer and replace the engine oil with new oil. On vehicles that have already experienced this condition, replace the engine assembly, injectors, and catalyst with new parts as necessary.

This filing lists 8 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
