Filing in context
The Horn is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 13 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 3 Subaru notifications from 2010 in this archive. Defect
Grease applied to the steering roll connector flat cable during manufacturing exhibits production variation, causing chemical stress cracks to form on the cable surface. Continued use allows cracks to propagate and break the conductor wire, which may result in non-deployment of the driver's airbag and loss of horn function.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, verify the steering roll connector production lot number and replace any affected unit with a conforming part.
