Filing in context
The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 11 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 3 Subaru notifications from 2010 in this archive. For scale, 1,758 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 months.
Defect
Improper manufacturing process of the CVT oil cooler hose causes internal surface wrinkling in some hoses. Internal pressure then propagates cracks from these wrinkles inward to outward through the hose wall, resulting in an oil leak. In the worst case, the vehicle may become inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, verify the oil cooler hose manufacturing lot number and replace any identified hose with a non-defective part.
