Defect
On HID headlamps (low-beam), a specific combination of bulb and reflector specifications causes the ultraviolet light emitted by the bulb to accelerate deterioration of the reflective surface. Continued use causes the aluminum vapor deposition on the reflective surface to peel away, gradually reducing light intensity. In the worst case, the lamp fails to conform to Safety Standards Article 32 (Headlamp Standards).
Corrective action
Replace the bulb on all vehicles with a corrected part. Then inspect the headlamp light intensity. On any vehicle that does not meet the specified light intensity, replace the headlamp body with a corrected part.
