Filing in context
The Accelerator is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 34 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 54 Nissan notifications from 2010 in this archive. For scale, 1,100 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years.
Defect
During the molding process, machining oil adhered to the disc inside the device that adjusts pedal effort in the accelerator assembly. In service, friction between the disc and plate gradually increases. If the condition continues, the opening sensor return slows, and in the worst case, engine speed may not drop to idle even after the accelerator pedal is released. Note: All affected vehicles are equipped with a brake-priority control system; applying the brake automatically reduces throttle opening to a low position, allowing the vehicle to be stopped.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, remove the disc and plate. On some models, also replace the return spring with the corrected part.
