Filing in context
The Airbag is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 225 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 41 Honda notifications from 2015 in this archive. For scale, 190 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 11 months.
Defect
In certain passenger-side airbag inflators, the inflator housing may rupture due to excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Fragments may scatter and injure vehicle occupants.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, as a precautionary measure, the passenger-side airbag inflator is incorporated into notification number 3568 dated May 14, 2015, and replaced with new units in order of oldest model year first. All removed inflators are collected for root cause investigation. If replacement parts are unavailable, as an interim measure, the passenger-side airbag is deactivated and a warning indicating that the airbag is non-operational is displayed on the passenger-side sun visor.
