Filing in context
The Headlamp is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 49 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 25 Honda notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 1,001 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 8 months.
Defect
On the left high-intensity discharge headlamp, the assembly jig used to attach the lens to the housing has incorrect dimensions. As a result, the seal between the lens and housing is misaligned after assembly. Repeated switching of the headlamp on and off causes the seal to partially detach, allowing water to enter the headlamp during rain or wet-weather driving. If the intruding water reaches the control unit mounted at the lower interior of the headlamp, a short circuit in the voltage control circuit may occur. In the worst case, the headlamp may fail to illuminate.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the headlamp seal condition. Vehicles with a seal defect are to have the headlamp replaced with the corrected part and the control unit replaced with a new unit. Vehicles with no seal defect are to have the headlamp replaced with the corrected part.
