Filing in context
The Headlamp is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 49 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 25 Honda notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 431 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 4 months.
Defect
On high-intensity discharge headlamps, the melt material used to seal the lens to the housing is inadequate and cannot absorb repeated vibration during driving. This causes the seal to partially detach, allowing water to enter the headlamp during rain or wet-road driving. If the intruding water reaches the control unit mounted at the lower interior of the headlamp, the voltage control circuit may short circuit, causing the headlamp to stop illuminating.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the headlamp seal condition. On units with a defective seal, replace both the headlamp with the corrected part and the control unit with a new unit. On units with no defect, replace the headlamp with the corrected part.
