Filing in context
The Wiring is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 236 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 25 Honda notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 1,001 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 8 months.
Defect
The method used to protect the electrical wiring installed inside the trunk is inadequate. The harness band clip that secures the wiring to the body creates an excessive bend in the harness, and repeated opening and closing of the trunk lid damages the protective tape on the wiring. Continued use may cause the conductor wires to break. In the worst case, the license plate lamp, reverse lamp, and tail lamps may fail to illuminate.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the condition of the protective tape at the harness band clip location on the electrical wiring. Vehicles with damaged tape are to have the affected wiring replaced with the corrected part. Vehicles with no wiring damage are to have a protective resin tube added to the harness at that location.
