Defect
On vehicles equipped with electric power steering, the intermediate shaft and sliding yoke connecting the steering wheel to the steering gear box have insufficient strength. Repeated application of excessive force—such as holding the steering at full lock at low speed or contacting a curb with the tire while driving—can cause loosening or cracking at the joint. Continued use may, in the worst case, cause the joint to separate or fracture, resulting in loss of steering control.
Corrective action
Replace the intermediate shaft and sliding yoke on all vehicles with the corrected parts, and torque the intermediate extension shaft clamping bolt to the specified value.

状況
電動式パワーステアリング付車のハンドルとギヤボックスを連結しているインタミディエイトシャフトとスライディングヨークの強度が不足しているため、低速時にハンドルを強く一杯に切ったり、走行中縁石にタイヤを接触させる等、当該部品に過大な力が繰り返し作用すると、連結部が緩んだり、亀裂が発生することがある。そのため、そのまま使用を続けると、最悪の場合、連結部が外れたり折損して、かじ取り操作ができなくなるおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、インタミディエイトシャフトとスライディングヨークを対策品に交換するとともに、インタミエクステンションシャフトの締付ボルトを規定トルクで締め付ける。
