Defect

The intermediate shaft—the connecting shaft linking the steering wheel to the steering gear box—on replacement steering shafts manufactured for service use has improperly welded joints. On vehicles fitted with these replacement parts, continued use may cause the joint to fracture, resulting in loss of steering control.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the affected intermediate shaft with a conforming part.

状況

 交換修理用に製造したステアリングシャフトにおいて、ハンドルとギアボックスをつな ぐ連結軸(インタミディエイトシャフト)の接合部の溶接に不適切なものがあるため、交 換修理によって当該部品を取り付けた車両について、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、 当該接合部が破損し、かじ取り操作ができなくなるおそれがある。

改善措置

 全車両、当該インタミディエイトシャフトを良品と交換する。
