Filing in context
The Differential is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 33 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 18 Suzuki notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 3,325 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles.
Defect
During casting of the left-side case of the rear differential, insufficient mold-release agent was applied, causing the case to adhere to the mold and sustain a crack upon removal. Continued use allows the crack to propagate, resulting in an oil leak. In the worst case, the vehicle may become inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the left-side rear differential case for cracks. If a crack is found, replace the case with a non-defective part.
