Filing in context
The Suspension Arm/Rod is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 24 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 140 Mitsubishi notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 2,201 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 3 months.
Defect
The lower radius rod on the front axle has insufficient strength to withstand extended service beyond the originally assumed service life. This may cause cracks to develop in the rod. Continued use in this condition may lead to fracture of the rod, and in the worst case, vehicle driving stability is compromised.
Corrective action
On all affected vehicles, inspect the radius rod. If a corrected part is not already installed, replace it with the corrected part. As an interim measure while full corrected-part supply is pending, inspect the rod for cracks; replace any rod found cracked with the corrected part immediately, and schedule remaining vehicles for corrected-part replacement at a later date.
