Filing in context
The Pressure Control / Transmission Unit is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 14 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 140 Mitsubishi notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 2,387 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 6 months.
Defect
The fitting angle of the connector at the switching valve mounting point on the parking brake air hose is incorrect, causing the rear brake air hose and the parking brake air hose to contact each other when the vehicle body bounces. Continued use allows driving vibration to rub the two hoses against each other, causing wear. In the worst case, a hole may form in a hose, resulting in air leakage. This may cause insufficient braking force or prevent the parking brake from releasing. (Note: This notification supersedes the recall filed on June 15, 2004 under notification number 1110. The corrective measures from that recall were determined to be insufficient; the remedy content and scope have been revised and are being re-implemented.)
Corrective action
On all vehicles, correct the fitting angle to ensure adequate clearance between both hoses. Any air hose found to be damaged will be replaced with a new unit.
