Defect

The needle bearing end geometry at the universal joint of the propeller shaft is incorrect, preventing the bearing from retaining grease. Continued use results in lubrication starvation, causing bearing seizure and universal joint failure. In the worst case, the propeller shaft may detach from the vehicle, rendering it inoperable.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the complete universal joint assembly with a corrected part. Because full supply of corrected parts will take time, an interim measure will be applied: inspect the universal joint for play, and replace any joint exceeding the specified value with a corrected part immediately. For joints within the specified value, pack with grease and schedule replacement with a corrected part at a later date.

状況

プロペラシャフトのユニバーサルジョイント部のニードルベアリング端部の形状が不適切なため、当該ベアリング部のグリ-スを保持できないものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、潤滑不足でベアリングが焼付き、ユニバーサルジョイント部が破損し、最悪の場合、プロペラシャフトが脱落して走行不能となるおそれがある。

改善措置

全車両、ユニバーサルジョイント一式を対策品と交換する。 なお、対策品の全数供給に時間を要するため、当面の暫定措置として、ユニバーサルジョイントのガタを点検し、基準値を超えるものは対策品と交換する。又、基準値以下のものは、グリースを充填し、後日、対策品と交換する。
