Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Hino & Isuzu.
The Engine Assembly is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 43 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 34 Hino notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 2,388 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 8 months.
Defect
The clearance between the butterfly valve and the valve case in the engine intake throttle valve is set incorrectly. Carbon deposits from exhaust gas recirculation accumulate on the tip of the valve and cause it to catch on the valve case. As a result, the engine may stall while driving and fail to restart. (This notification supersedes the improvement campaign filed on September 18, 2001 under Notification No. 188. Because the corrective measures taken at that time were insufficient, the scope of the remedy has been revised and expanded.)
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the stopper bolt and nut with corrected parts to widen the clearance of the intake throttle valve.
