Filing in context
The Steering Linkage is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 45 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 140 Mitsubishi notifications from 2005 in this archive. Defect
Insufficient strength in the ball stud allows repeated stationary steering maneuvers to initiate cracks in the tapered section of the ball stud. Continued use may cause the tapered section to fracture. In the worst case, loss of steering control results.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the ball stud with the corrected part. As an interim measure while full parts supply is pending, inspect the ball stud for cracks. If cracks are present, replace with the corrected part immediately. If no cracks are found, replace with the corrected part at a later date.
