Filing in context
The Pressure Control/Transmission Unit is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 20 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 140 Mitsubishi notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 2,938 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 10 months.
Defect
The air tank mounting bracket is improperly welded. Vehicle vibration causes the weld to separate, allowing the bracket to become loose. Continued use damages the air pipe attached to the tank, and in the worst case, air leaks and braking force is reduced.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the weld condition of the mounting bracket. If the weld is inadequate, perform weld repair. Additionally, inspect the air pipe; if the air pipe is damaged, replace it with a new one.
