Filing in context
The Pressure Control/Transmission Unit is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 20 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 140 Mitsubishi notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 3,288 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 7 months.
Defect
On medium-duty all-wheel-drive vehicles, the front brake pipes are improperly secured. Vibration from the brake drum during braking causes the pipes to resonate and develop cracks. Continued use allows brake fluid to seep from the cracks, reducing fluid level. In the worst case, braking force is reduced.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, install clamps on the affected brake pipes to prevent resonance, and replace the affected brake pipes with new parts.
