Defect

The insulation on the engine control wiring harness has insufficient abrasion resistance. Engine vibration causes the insulation at wiring bend points to rub against the protective corrugated tube, wearing through the covering. Continued use in this condition may cause a short circuit or broken wire, resulting in the engine stalling. In the worst case, the engine may not restart.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the affected wiring with the corrected part equipped with a roll-tube protective cover. For wiring attached to the injection pump, inspect the insulation condition and take the following action: (1) If the core wire is exposed due to damage, replace the injection pump assembly with the corrected part. (2) If damage is present but the core wire is not exposed, repair the wiring and replace the protective tube with the corrected part. (3) If no damage is present, replace the protective tube with the corrected part.
