Defect

In the passenger-side airbag inflator, the propellant charge may have been manufactured with insufficient density due to improper molding of the propellant or improper moisture-prevention measures applied after molding. During airbag deployment, this condition causes abnormal pressure buildup inside the inflator. In the worst case, the inflator housing ruptures and fragments are ejected, which may cause a vehicle fire or occupant injury.

Corrective action

Replace the airbag inflator on all vehicles with a conforming unit.
