Defect
The PCV hose routing blow-by gas to the intake manifold has an improperly designed shape, causing the hose to expand and contract in response to engine vacuum fluctuations. Continued use allows microscopic cracks — initiated by exposure to blow-by gas and ozone — to propagate through the hose wall. In the worst case, the hose may rupture.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the PCV hose with the corrected part.
