Filed July 7, 2004 · Mitsubishi

Overview

MLIT filing number1111520
TypeStatutory Recall (government-mandated recall)
Date filedJuly 7, 2004
Manufacturer(s)Mitsubishi
ComponentExhaust pipe
Production periodMarch 31, 1994 — July 31, 1995

Defect

The exhaust pipe forward of the main muffler has insufficient wall thickness, and the bracket supporting the pipe is welded in an incorrect position. Together, these conditions leave the pipe with insufficient strength to withstand vibration during driving, allowing cracks to form. Continued operation can cause the pipe to fracture, resulting in increased exhaust noise.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the main muffler assembly with a corrected part. (Because supply of the corrected part requires time, all owners will be notified of the defect; repair work will be performed at a later date.)
