Defect
On 4-wheel-drive vehicles, the rear axle shaft machining dimensions are incorrect on some units, and the lock nut securing the rear brake drum to the shaft is insufficiently tightened on some units. Repeated starts and turns can cause the lock nut to loosen. In the worst case, the lock nut may disengage completely and the wheel may detach from the vehicle.
Corrective action
Inspect all vehicles for lock nut tightening condition and rear axle shaft machining dimensions. Where the lock nut is loose, replace the complete rear axle shaft assembly, rear brake drum, and lock nut with new parts. Where the lock nut is not loose but the axle shaft machining dimensions are out of specification, replace the complete rear axle shaft assembly with a conforming unit and replace the lock nut with a new part. Where the lock nut is not loose and axle shaft machining dimensions are normal, replace the lock nut with a new part.

4輪駆動車の後軸用動力伝達装置において、リヤアクスルシャフトの加工寸法が不適切な ものがあり、また当該シャフトにリヤブレーキドラムを固定するロックナットの締付けが 不十分なものがあるため、発進および旋回等の繰り返しにより当該ロックナットが緩むこ とがある。そのため、最悪の場合、当該ロックナットが外れ、車輪が脱落するおそれがあ る。
改善措置
全車両、ロックナットの締付け状態およびリヤアクスルシャフト加工寸度を点検し、ロッ クナットに緩みのあるものはリヤアクスルシャフト一式,リヤブレーキドラム,およびロ ックナットを新品と交換する。ロックナットに緩みがなく、リヤアクスルシャフト加工寸 度不良のものはリヤアクスルシャフト一式を良品におよびロックナットを新品に交換する 。またロックナットに緩みがなく、リヤアクスルシャフト加工寸度が正常なものはロック ナットを新品に交換する。
